ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTOR — The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FME) of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University (UKIM) in Skopje has grown and flourished for over six decades. From its beginnings in 1959 as a department under the former Technical Faculty combined with Electrical Engineering to the present day as a separate Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, FME continues to develop its own unique characteristics based on the visions of its founders, yet also reflecting the lessons of experience and the opportunities of the future.

The Faculty has six institutes and one departmental unit: Institute of Production Engineering and Management with five laboratories; the Institute of Engineering Design, Mechanization and Motor Vehicles with three laboratories; the Institute of Thermal Engineering with five laboratories, the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Automatics with two laboratories; the Institute of Welding and Welded Structures with four laboratories; the Institute of Mechanics with one laboratory and the Department of Mathematics and Information Sciences.

Apart from its educational role, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering undertakes research activities in the field of Mechanical Engineering. With its staff specialties and talents, FME has become a center for the development of science, scientific thought and the application of science in the economy. As a result of the extensive research activity of the Faculty, staff frequently take part in international conferences, symposia and seminars in Macedonia and abroad: scientific and specialist papers and articles are published in domestic and foreign journals, collections and books.
