Over the past six months, the Smart Learning Factory – Skopje had the pleasure of hosting a group of enthusiastic students from Industrial Engineering and Management, Industrial Design, and Mechatronics.
Within the Project Hub 3 initiative, funded by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – Skopje, the students collaborated to develop an innovative board game for manufacturing, combining creativity, interdisciplinary teamwork, and engineering knowledge into an engaging educational tool.
Leanup! is the umbrella concept for a modular game system. Given the team’s size and diverse expertise, we designed a modular structure addressing multiple manufacturing domains, enabling coverage of different courses and learning objectives across the faculty.
Leanup! name is inspired by the Japanese Lean philosophy, which emphasizes optimization, respect for people, and continuous improvement of processes. The name reflects the idea of “cleaning up” manufacturing wastes and improving value through teamwork and learning. Leanup! is a mindset.
The engineering methods and concepts represented in the board game are derived from various courses across the faculty, confirming the game’s applicability in supporting existing lectures – but in a fun way.
The board games will remain a part of Smart Learning Factory – Skopje as one of the didactical concepts that the learning factory is offering to the current and future students.
